Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 Review

Succeeding the excellent C910, the C920 is largely based on the ergonomics of the previous high-end Logitech model. It embeds a 1920x1080 pixel Full HD sensor covered with a glass plate, two microphones located on both sides of the webcam and, of course, incorporates an autofocus.

 Let’s explore its properties.

Design

Three changes are to be noted on this new model. Without revolutionizing the design of the C920, Logitech has managed to give it more style including highlighting the optical part of the microphones. It's very successful!

The second change is in the encoding of videos. Instead of leaving this job to the processor, the webcam now has everything needed to compress the video through the H264 codec. The video stream can thus more easily transit via USB 2.0.

Finally, like the Microsoft LifeCam Studio, his foot now has a screw allowing him to come to attach to a tripod. It's very useful. However, the webcam still cannot rotate sideways. It will need to be placed directly in front of you...

Performance

The image delivered by the C920 is excellent. Compared to the C910, we noticed a drop in frame rate between 720p (45 fps) and 1080p (15 fps). This new version remains constant whether you are in HD or Full HD. It keeps 25 fps in a well-lit room which is perfectly fluid and ideal for streaming video games.

In low light, the spearhead of Logitech is doing well. The image loses, of course in bitrate, but it remains fluid enough to hold a video conversation. In addition, the usb webcam keeps a low level of noise in the image. A little advice, if the rendering seems a little dark, just switch to manual settings, increase the gain and slightly lower the exposure to have a brighter image with a slight loss of flow.

Logitech integrates a "RightSound" technology into its webcams. This function is intended to reduce surrounding noise to make the voice clearer. On the other hand, if the noises are effectively reduced, this action degrades the quality of sound.

If the room is not too noisy, we advise you not to use this function. The sound quality is gaining in quality. The voice of the interlocutor is perfectly recognizable. It's bluffing!

A complete software suite

Logitech offers a complete software suite with its C920 webcam. The program called "WebCam Software" serves as a gateway to all others in the suite. It is therefore possible to take pictures and record videos. Notice to those who want fun in their conversations, like all Logitech a little upscale, the C920 comes with a “Video Effects” tool that includes many avatars and accessories for the face. These adapt to movements and expressions.

The software suite also allows you to turn your home into a remotely monitored cell. The webcam triggers the recording when it detects a movement. On the other hand, the software does not make it possible to prevent by email as the more evolved systems propose.

Final Thoughts

In the end, this camera is a great investment because of the high quality it offers. The sturdy and attractive design successfully portrays its many features. The performance are amazing, in full HD and has great sound quality. The USB also allows you to easily connect it to your laptop or desktop. So, if you want to get it, you can easily find this web camera online on various websites.
